You'll probably find that you've heard most chord progressions that have ever been commonly used in your chosen genre of music. E, A, and D (while you're just using the strings) are a staple of blues and rock. It's the spin you put on things that makes a song different.

Try adding it to some that don't use it. I'm not a virtuoso of music theory, but IIRC adding the B string to most open chords (that don't use it) results in Chord Add7th (Eadd7) and adding the high E string results in Add9th. I see it in tab a lot.

You can also play the intro to AC/DC's Thunderstruck on just the B string. It's a good exercise for learning speed and accuracy.

That's awesome, Matt. After you graduate and listen to friends talk of debt from student loans you will realize exactly how far ahead this puts you.

Hrmm. This is really cool. However, I suspect that this service will be shut down soon as the power of the RIAA expands.

I'm guessing this company can't be sued for linking to media files. I bet that will change if RIAA's power continues to expand.

What I'm getting at is that I don't generally like music that requires a capo. Personal preference, I know, but I still like to take friendly pot shots at them.

Those websites that emit tones aren't really useful to the untrained ear, but they are handy if you know what you're doing.

I just remember to ask somebody who plays guitar the next time I have a guitar question. If you search diligently enough, you'll probably find an answer somewhere on the internet, though.

FYI, I've heard there are many websites that will emit tones for you to tune your guitar. Tuners are so cheap that it's almost not necessary (what's a $8 tuner when you bought a $100+ guitar) but it's neat to know that all you really need is a guitar and a net connection.

My dad tutored me while learning, so I always had someone that could answer specific questions or show me different ways to play the same thing. Where do you go on the net when you have a specific question or problem? A forum, I suppose?

Looks like a fine instrument. Action is very important to me too. I learned on a 71 Gibson SG given to me from my dad that has the lowest action and smallest neck of anything I've played. It has some small problems, so I rarely play it anymore, but I still haven't found a guitar that matches it in playability.

I'm not really an acoustic guy, myself. I no longer need to serenade women by moonlight, and my interests favor electric guitar. Acoustics are good to learn on, though, and they're good for playing around without an amp. As far as sound, I find that a clean electric signal with some chorus and reverb added can sound about as nice as an acoustic. Chorus is like cheese: it makes everything better.
